Healing & Peace Beyond My Understanding

Well it has been a little over a week since surgery, and I am off crutches, have full range back, and am on the road to recovery. My therapist is having me bike about 2 miles a day, as well as doing exercises 2 times a day. My key numbers for therapy right now is 2, and 10. Two times a day, two miles a day, two times a week (therapy with Mr. Funk), 10 reps, two sets of ten reps etc...

Mom, Dad and I had to make the hard decision about Wisconsin yesterday. After much thought, discussion, and some tears, it was decided that it would be best for Mom and I to stay home. Dad said it the clearest by saying, "We know that we have a round peg and a round hole, but we are still trying our best to fit a square peg in the round hole." Meaning, we all knew that it would be best if Mom and I stay, but coming to terms with that was too painful and we wanted to do anything we could to be able to go. I am going to miss seeing Papa Jim, Grandma Bernice, Uncle Steve, Aunty Ann, Uncle Don, Aunt Sue, Julie, Laura, Ann, Tim, Brynn, Mackenna, and everyone else up there. My heart hurts to think about all the people I won't be able to see, and what we as a family won't be able to do. My heart hurts as I write this, but my prayer is that I will be able to bring my my pain to Christ, and that I would receive healing that only comes from Him and a "peace beyond my understanding".

Arthroscopic Surgery

I did it! I am soo glad it is over! Now the fun hard stuff begins. Physical Therapy. I went yesterday for Mr. Funk to unwind me and get me started on my exercises. It went better than I thought it would, and he was impressed with all that I was able to do. And I actually felt better coming out of therapy, than going into it. Here are a couple pictures of the past couple days. The guy in the the last two photos is Mr. Funk, my therapist.

The surgery went really well, or so I was told by Dr. Lemak. I got to the hospital at 5 am, and they were wheeling me back for surgery around 6:30. They gave me a numbing shot, so I did not feel my IV at all! That was a big relief. My anesthesiologist was really kind, but they gave me some kind of giggly medicine that made me loopy, so I remember little of them getting me ready for surgery. I woke up at 8:35, with lines and tubes attached to me everywhere. Thankfully, the more I woke up, the more lines they took off of me. My three nurses in recovery; Tim, Susan, and Lindsey were very kind and funny. Tim was the funniest though. After 3 doses of Morphine, a dose of a nausea medicine, a couple hours to wake up, and many instructions from doctors and nurses, they sent me home. We got home around 12:30 and Mom, Dad and I slept most of the afternoon. Boo and Witt came over and visited for a while and then before I knew it, it was time for bed.

Yesterday morning was rough, because the medicine that they had given me at the hospital had worn off. But surprisingly, after doing some exercises and icing my knees at therapy, my knees felt better. My knees felt well enough, that Mom and I ran into Food Giant to get somethings for dinner. The electric buggies are fun!

I am at the 5 hour mark for my pain medicine, so I need to go eat something, so I can take some medicine when I need it.

Till next time...

Tomorrow

The hospital called today and they said that I am the first one up for surgery tomorrow. That is a plus. That hopefully means that I will get in and out a lot quicker. The downside to being the first one, is that I have to be there at 5 in the morning. Groan. That means that I have to get up at 3:45 so that we can leave at 4:15, so we can be there at 5:00. :(

Since I am going to be up so early, I think an early dinner and bed time is a GREAT idea!

Busy Week

This week is going to be a busy one. Mikkel and Marc leave tomorrow, Caleb has a root canal scheduled for tomorrow, Emma is going to spend the night tomorrow night, and I will spend Tuesday getting ready for Wednesday. I don't know when my surgery will be, but I hope it will be early. After my surgery, I will do my best to keep you guys updated.

This post feels kind of random, but a storm is coming and I need to get off the computer. So I will sign off for now, with the promise to keep you guys updated.
